The garden of Kim and Rob Krodel is a thirteen-year  work-in-progress. The first summer after the (then) family of four (now five) moved from Boston, MA, a handful of  perennials popped up on the relatively barren CT landscape. A few clumps of older daylily varieties caught Kim’s eye. Though she’d gardened at their previous home, she’d only planted a single daylily and hadn't felt inspired to add more. But these yellow and peach spidery NOIDs struck her fancy. Ever thrifty, Kim decided to buy some bee-pod daylily seed on Ebay rather than pay something crazy like $10 for a plant. Then she noticed an advertisement for the annual CDS daylily sale. She showed up and shopped, and was greeted by the nicest people. She decided to attend a meeting and see what that was all about. She was swiftly sucked into the vortex that is the daylily world, purchasing ever more and more expensive plants without a second thought. She started pollinating her own plants, registering some of them, and abandoning her veggie bed to fill it with seedlings. She offered to help out on the board for CDS, started a newsletter for the club, got shnookered into becoming their PR person, and, well, we all know how the story ends. Or does it ever end...?
